Need another big feast, this time @ Absolute Barbeques, Media City

Craving for buffet again. Somewhere with lots of meat. BBQ Style. All you can eat. So, today we decided to visit the highly rated Ab's Absolute Barbeques Indian Restaurant by the Zomato Website. There are many good reviews. Customers that been there have been very impressed with the place and food.

I must admit, unfortunately, my experience there was nothing great besides having the grill experience, which was pretty unique. Unfortunately, the grill seems useless besides keeping the kebab hot. The meats with skewers were already cooked in advance before serving. Therefore, there isn't any bbq cooking experience.

The marinate was nothing special, i was expecting something good since it is indian and their spices. Meat was extremely dry, not juicy. Salty. Shame no special BBQ sauce to make good.

The main course was fine, with some variety of indian curries. However nothing stood out i must say. Dessert was ok, wasn't used to indian desserts. My favourite will be the starter served, which is cheesy baked potatoes and coated corns. There are very delicious.

I am very disappointed, not with the restaurant (i enjoyed), but the bias reviewers in Zomato. The food is not up to standard for a 4.8/5.0 rating. There should be a clear explanation that it is value for money. As you don't get much buffet in Dubai with such prices and quantities. Mostly are double the price of what you get here.

The bias reviews mainly by "own" people themselves trying to support their "own" may have back fire the restaurant. This restaurant is "great", but such bias reviews have given people the wrong impression and having too high expectations before even going. Honestly, i was expecting something really Really REALLY awesome experience with such HIGH RATING. Even 16 Michellin Star Mr.Gordon Ramsay's Restaurants does not have a 4.8/5.0 rating!

Location : Shop G05, Sidra Tower, Dubai Media City along Sheikh
           Zayed Road
Rating   : 3.8 / 5

Price: Buffet

I had a grill like that but we never used it - I guess it is too hot for that here. In the end, I just gave it away.

Maybe those reviewers do not get to eat Indian food all that much or if ever at all so they were easily impressed?

I went for a buffet lunch at a Chinese restaurant in London - it was packed!!! An F4 buffet - Fried mee, Fried mee again, Singapore mee, they called it, Fried bihun and Fried rice...and they were all so bland, absolutely tasteless!!! Thankfully, they had fried chicken wings too - so I just feasted on those and left. Everyone else seemed to enjoy it though.

I love buffet. But age catching up, cannot eat so much unlike I used to be.

It's a problem I've seen in local places as well, where they actually PAY people to give them good reviews. Very unethical - it's quite obvious who is doing that so I don't know why they even want to do it.

Your desserts look nice but pre-cooked kebabs totally ruins the experience. It would for me too, I would have expected to cook my own stuff in such a setup.

Wahh...kind of 'canggih' the way the set up the BBQ grill. Even though I love BBQ, i prefer everything is cooked and served. I hate the smell sticking on my clothes.

From the photos, the food looks great. But I don't fancy doing bbq in a restaurant plus it is just to warm up the food. I prefer doing bbq in the open where the food really gets cooked over the bbq.

You can't complain about the chefs when you cook your own! ;-)

I dun really fancy grilled meat coz mostly the meat would then be hard and dry...but anyhow having some other stuffs can go well with it perhaps veggies and soup to substitute it.

ah... looks good!!! i have not tried buffet before when i was in Dubai, because the food portion is always huge i could not even finish, hahahaha!!! or probably if having buffet, i can go on my own pace :)

The grill looks like a table football (is that what we call it?). My hubby doesnt fancy indian food so no way I'll be able to try this :(

True...sometimes expectation too high then will feel disappointed

suituapui, probably many people did not tried good indian food before, and was fascinated by the bbq concept. but the bbq was useless, as it was not meant for cooking the meat but just for show, keeping it hot.

Rose, yes, bbq bad for health. make sure have more fresh cucumbers to balance the meal ;)

Agree Huaibin. At least in Malaysia is always DIY when they gave you such setup.

Sybil, looks delicious only. lol.

Yee Ling, haha, ladies.

Yes Nancy, the experience that counts. Open air BBQ. yum!

YumList, it was precooked!

NuxV, yup, there will be some fresh salads too. Unfortunately they did not provide any marinates or sauces to keep the meat more juicy. it was really dry and salty.

Hi SK, welcome back please! hehe.

Hi Merryn, yup, Fusball i think. Ah.. do you enjoy indian food urself?

Yes SmallKuching :(

I see a good variety of salad. Not really into bbq meqt but I like to eat indian cuisines especially northern indian cuisine. When ratings are high expectations are high too so it is easy to feel disappointed.

Irvine Chin said...

yes mun, therefore, reviewers gotta be more realistic. value for money does not deserve a 4.8/5 rating. i love indian vegetarian cuisine. the best curries ever.
